The title doesn't mean I'm leaving or anything. It's more of an explanation as to why I haven't been on as frequently as I usually am.
So there's this thing called the Schimetzin coming up. It's a HUUUUUGE pow-wow held at Foxwoods. There's tons of competitions and all that stuff, and there's all this thing called the Grand Prosession (GP), where tribes come together to walk or march or something (not entirely sure, I'm new to this ceremony) all together, while staying in their own groups within the larger group.
Tribes are only able to participate in the GP if they're invited. They're only invited if they're recognized in the Native world as an actual tribe. Our tribe was invited to enter it. This is a big thing for us, it means that the larger more well known tribes recognize us as an actual tribe. It's a BIG thing, especially since there's another tribe in Vermont run by our Chief's ex-wife that's trying to literally become us, and erase our existence. See, they weren't invited. We were. We're happy with that.
What does that mean? Well, it means that we need to have some pretty darn authentic regalia (the clothing that we wear, a "costume", if you must call it so). We have to have regalia made out of the right materials with the right patterns and the right colors. There are still a variety, but we have to make this stuff from scratch.
And THATS where I've been. My mother and I have been gathering materials and getting information and all that good stuff. Now we're working on getting the patterns and actually making the stuff. The Schimetzin is in August, we've gotta do most of the work within the next two weeks. We're working pretty furiously.
We have to march in the GP on August 23rd, I'm moving into college on August 24th. I have no idea what my workload is going to be then, so I'll give further updates at the time.
I'M NOT LEAVE. I'M NOT LEAVING. I AM NOT. LEAVING.
I'm just gonna be a bit more elusive than usual =P
Just wanted to explain why.
